What this website collects, why we collect it, who sees it, and how to make us stop. Written to be read rather than skimmed past.

01Who We Are

Mountain West Leadership (MWL PAC) is a political action committee. This policy explains what this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers mountainwestleadership.org and any sign-up form we run on it.

We are a political committee, not a retailer. We are not in the business of monetising your attention, and this site carries no advertising.

02What We Collect

Information you give us

Our sign-up form asks for four things. Only your email address is required. First name, last name, and mobile phone number are optional and labelled as such on the form.

• Email address — so we can send you updates.
• First and last name — optional, so we can address you properly.
• Mobile phone number — optional. If you give it, you are asking to receive text messages, and we record that you did so.

Information collected automatically

This site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes basic request data in order to deliver pages and defend against attacks: your IP address, the country it resolves to, your browser and device type, the pages requested, and the time of the request.

When you submit the sign-up form with a phone number, we also record the date, time, and IP address of that submission, together with a version tag for the exact consent language shown to you. This is a legal record of your consent to be texted. We keep it for that purpose and no other.

What we do not collect

• No advertising or retargeting pixels. There is no Meta Pixel, no ad network tag, and no session recording on this site.
• No purchased data. We do not append, enrich, or buy personal information about visitors to this site.
• No selling. We do not sell or rent what we hold. See Who We Share It With.

Third parties your browser contacts

Two, and they are both Google:

• Google Fonts — the typefaces are served from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, so Google receives your IP address and browser information as part of that request. Google states it does not use Google Fonts requests to build advertising profiles.
• Google Analytics — described in full in the next section.

Most browsers and privacy extensions can block both. The site remains fully readable without them.

03Analytics and Cookies

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-HRXE5PN7QN) to understand how many people visit, which pages they read, and roughly where in the world they are. We use it to judge whether our message is reaching anyone — not to build advertising audiences.

What that means in practice

• Google Analytics sets first-party cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_HRXE5PN7QN) so that repeat visits from the same browser can be counted as one visitor rather than several. These are the only cookies this site causes to be set.
• Google receives your IP address in order to deliver the request. Google Analytics 4 derives an approximate location from it and then discards it — IP addresses are not logged or stored in the reports we see.
• We see aggregate reports: page views, referring sites, device and browser types, country and region. We cannot see your name, your email address, or tie a visit to a particular person.
• We do not enable Google Analytics' advertising features — no Google Signals, no demographics and interests reporting, no remarketing audiences. Nothing collected here is used to follow you around the internet.

How to opt out

• Install Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which blocks it on every site you visit.
• Block cookies or scripts for this site in your browser settings, or use any content blocker. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.
• Most browsers offer a "block third-party cookies" setting that limits it further.

04How We Use It

We use what you give us to do the things you asked us to do:

• Send you email updates about Mountain West Leadership (MWL PAC) and the issues we work on.
• Send you text messages, only if you gave us a mobile number.
• Respond when you write to us.
• Keep a record of your consent to be contacted.
• Maintain the security and integrity of this site.
• Comply with the law, including campaign finance and election law where it applies.

05Text Messages

Giving us your mobile number on the sign-up form is how you consent to receive recurring automated text messages from us at that number, including messages sent by an automatic telephone dialing system. The full consent language appears next to the phone field on the form, and it says the same thing there as here.

• Consent is never a condition of joining our list, of any purchase, or of any contribution. Leave the field blank and you will still receive email if you asked for it.
• Message frequency varies.
• Message and data rates may apply — those are charged by your carrier, not by us.
• Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them. Reply HELP for assistance.
• Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

We do not sell, rent, or share mobile numbers or SMS consent with anyone for their own marketing. Numbers are shared only with the messaging vendor that delivers our texts, and only so that they can deliver them.

06Who We Share It With

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it in four narrow circumstances:

• Service providers. The vendors that host this site, deliver our email, and deliver our text messages need your information in order to do those jobs. They are permitted to use it for that and nothing else. Sign-up notifications are sent to the committee's own mailboxes.
• Legal compliance. If the law, a subpoena, or a court order requires disclosure, we comply.
• Campaign finance disclosure. If you ever make a contribution to us, federal and state law may require us to publicly report your name, mailing address, occupation, employer, and the amount. That is a legal obligation, not a choice we make. This site does not currently accept contributions.
• Protecting people. To investigate fraud, abuse, threats, or security incidents.

07How Long We Keep It

We keep your contact details for as long as you remain on our list, and for a reasonable period afterwards to honour your opt-out — if you unsubscribe, we have to remember that you did, or we would mail you again.

Consent records for text messaging are kept for at least four years, which is the window in which a claim under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act can be brought.

Server logs are retained on a short rolling basis by our host for security and diagnostics.

08Your Choices

• Email. Every message we send carries an unsubscribe link.
• Text messages. Reply STOP to any message.
• Access, correction, deletion. Write to us at the address below and tell us what you want. We will honour reasonable requests to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you, subject to any record we are legally required to keep.
• Analytics. See Analytics and Cookies for how to switch it off entirely.
• Do Not Track. Browsers send this signal with no agreed definition of what honouring it requires, so we do not rely on it. Nothing on this site tracks you across other websites, and the opt-outs above work regardless of what your browser sends.

Residents of some states, including California, have specific statutory rights over their personal information. We extend the substance of those rights — access, correction, deletion, and no sale of personal information — to everyone who writes to us, regardless of where they live.

09Children

This site is intended for adults engaged in the political process. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.

10Security

This site is served over HTTPS. Form submissions are validated and transmitted over an encrypted connection, and we hold no subscriber database on this website — a sign-up is emailed to the committee and, where a list provider is connected, passed to it. Nothing is stored on the web server.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. We take reasonable measures appropriate to the sensitivity of what we hold, which is contact information rather than financial or health data.

11Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we handle information you have already given us, we will say so directly to the people affected.
